I am a firm believer in the least amount of bulk that is added to any ensemble look the better! So needless to say when I received the opportunity to wear a look that included a Holidickey I jumped at it. For the most part, the sleeves on my thin sweaters are somewhat fitted, as well as generally cut on the body conscious side throughout the entire sweater. If I choose to layer a blouse underneath those sweaters, I will be dealing with the unsightly look of the buttons and body of the blouse showing through, and if the blouse has sleeves then the entire look becomes in my opinion a very messy and un-pulled together one. The dickie alleviates all of those issues completely! I'm wearing the "Ruffle" collar from Holidickeys and I really feel as though it adds that little extra *upf* to this look. The company also does a *Peter Pan* collar in a variety of colors, and I'm really looking forward to them as well!

Warning! Penny Toxicity In Dogs! Remembering Violet

I just received an incredibly sad email from my dear and beautiful friend Tricia. She told me that she lost her precious 3.5 year old rescued Pug Violet a few days ago. Through tests she learned that Violet had picked up and swallowed a penny that was stuck in the fold of her stomach. Any penny that was produced after 1982 is TOXIC TO DOGS!!! Had it been any other coin Violet would have become ill, but there is a good chance that she would be alive today! Tricia had some work done in her home, and suspects that it was accidentally dropped by one of the workers. She is both devastated and heartbroken! I know that all of my lovely readers will join me in sending their love and prayers to my very wonderful friend.

I finally got around to fulfilling one of my main New Year's resolutions! #1 on the hit list was re-organizing the pantry. Like any good mother, I did my homework when it came to preparing for Macie's arrival. I had no intention of wasting my $$$$$ on what I would refer to as "novelty junk"! I spent many days and nights researching, and these are a few of my favorite purchases.

1) I discovered the awesome (and aptly named) Upscale Pup when I was searching for the perfect bed. I spoke with the very lovely Linda, animal lover and owner of this fabulous pet boutique located in Florida. Lind carries just about everything that would please you and your little angel! Oscar Newman and Louis Dog are examples of the top rated designers that fill the shelves of Upscale Pup. Macie is madly in love with her gorgeous "Cradle Bed" from Louis Dog! As you can see in picture #4, the bed is dripping in fine quality! Organic cotton, satin bow with crystal, heart shaped pillow, separate teddy bear toy, and gorgeous tulle make this bed one in a million! It is an absolutely stunning piece of merchandise! The plush toys that I purchased #3 and #5 are beyond fabulous! The Best of Show set consists of a grooming spray, hairdryer, brush, and doggy shampoo. Not exactly in the Glamour vicinity, but nevertheless just as (if not more) important comes the Little Rascal Dog Litter Box.

For an entire slew of reasons I didn't want to subject my precious new puppy to the winter elements as only New York can bring. We may be having a highly unusually warm winter here, but it is still cold enough that there is no reason to subject my little barely 4lb. puppy to any discomfort whatsoever! Enter the awesome "Little Squirt" Dog Litter Pan complete with very lifelike grass and all! I came across several other "lookalikes" in my travels, but the Little Rascal really appears to be a cut above the rest. For example, the grass is fused into the rubber backing and is completely washable (a bag is included for you to just toss it right in the wash....and then air dry it. The sides of the box are 6" high (which ensures containment of any mess), there is a anti skid on the bottom of the box to ensure stability, and an all important training spray to entice the little angel to wander on over to do their business.

We received ours yesterday, and we have already begun to see some progress, not to mention that this box looks quite a bit more attractive than the piddle pad! Scrumptious Oatmeal Cookies

A classic and comforting recipe that will leave you yearning for more.

Ingredients:

. 1/2 cup butter softened

. 1/2 cup shortening

. 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

. 1 cup sugar

. 1 teaspoon vanilla

. 2 eggs

. 3 cups uncooked quick oats

. 1 1/2 cups of flour

. 1 teaspoon baking soda

. 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350

Step 1: In a large mixer bowl, beat butter, shortening and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla and eggs.

Step 2: In another bowl combine remaining ingredients.

Step 3: On a low speed gradually dry ingredients until thoroughly combined. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Step 4: Bake until cookies are golden brown (13 to 15 minutes). Cool cookies on baking sheet 1 minute. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.

. 1 tablespoon white miso paste

. 1 cup boiling water

. 3 tablespoons small cubes of Mori Nu soft tofu

Weak Nails? Rejuvacote From Duri Cosmetics Really Works!

I'm not a personal fan of long finger nails by any stretch of the imagination! Considering that soft nails run in my family that makes things pretty easy for me. When it comes to sensitive skin, I am a self declared expert! One false move and I am doomed and practically homebound for at least two days. So needless to say, I am a tough little cookie when it comes to my personal approval on any product that "claims" to be suitable for sensitive skin! When I was offered the opportunity to test out and review the Blueberry Fusion Scrub from The Body Deli I was cautiously optimistic. The reasoning behind that was simply that the buzz on The Body Deli organic skincare, beauty and bodycare products was extremely positive and considering that, I felt as though I at least had a fighting chance! Let me first begin by telling you that these products are so incredible that you could actually resort to eating them if the opportunity had by any chance presented itself! The products are so fresh that they are actually shipped with dry ice, and must be refrigerated promptly!

Aside from being organic, all of the Body Deli products are 100% natural and pure as well as paraben and sulfate free! I was especially interested in the Blueberry Fusion Facial Polish considering that exfoliation without irritation is the particular claim to fame for this "sorbet-ish" looking face polishing cream. New Orleans So Much More Than Beads~ Meet Sucre

Have you ever found a website that made you want to hop on a plane and visit the real thing? That is exactly how I felt when I discovered what very well could be the premier bakery in New Orleans Louisiana, and most surrounding areas! I was first smitten with the exquisitely elegant packaging, and then equally taken in by what appeared to be pastries, chocolates, and gift ideas that clearly were far beyond the "norm"!

Thankfully, the divine Sucre New Orleans delivers all over the entire country! Needless to say, I was all over that quicker than it would take for you to say french macaroon! I received the White Chocolate Lavender Macaroons (yes, they tasted as good as they sound!), the the 15 piece New Orleans Chocolate Collection (equally out of this world!), the Dark Chocolate Caramel Cookies (that brought cookies to an entirely new level!), and the 8 piece Chocolate Almond Toffee (that should be illegal!)

The White Chocolate Lavender Macaroons were mouth-watering delicious and delicate. The thin and crackly outer shell definitely had that perfect *egg shell* like quality that is both expected and demanded in a perfect macaroon! The inner crust was slightly chewy, and again pure perfection! The white chocolate filling was smooth, mouselike, and so very very chicly presented in the beautiful multi-colored striped box!

The New Orleans Chocolate Collection is a work of art! The box is filled with 15 very generously sized chocolate morsels. The chocolates represent the "flavors* of New Orleans. As with all of the creations at Sucre, the chocolates are hand crafted, and done so with only the finest ingredients available.

The Dark Chocolate Caramel Cookies were unlike any cookie that I've ever eaten before! In fact, it was something between a cake and a cookie, and the taste was very truthfully entirely unique and immensely outstanding! My intention was only to taste a very small bite, but instead I ended up eating the entire cookie..... It was that phenomenal!!!!

Lastly, the Chocolate Almond Toffee comes packaged in a clear cellophane bag that's tied in a purple satin ribbon. Last but by no means least, the cookies were completely out of this world! The Oatmeal Raisin and the Chocolate Chip VEGAN (unbelievable!) are in the top 5 of the best cookies that I have ever eaten! Again, everyone agreed that there was nothing in the look, feel, or taste that would suggest that you were eating anything less than an award winning cookie! Don't ask me why, but I just love using different body washes! I switch all the time, and my only requirements are that they be elegant in both scent and feel! Oven Roasted Potato Wedges

Ingredients for 32 wedges:

4 Idaho baking potatoes

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

2 teaspoons kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Preparation:

Step 1. Scrub potatoes; cut each potato into 8 wedges.

Step 2. In a large mixing bowl toss wedges with remaining ingredients.

Step 3. Place wedges in a single layer on parchment-lined baking sheets, and roast in a 425 F oven until tender (30-40 minutes) turning once.

Step 4. Remove from oven, place on serving platter.

Petit Dessert Finger Sandwiches

{An easy to prepare dessert befitting a garden party}

Ingredients for 8 finger sandwiches:

1 plain pound cake

4 Tbs. Haute Fudge with Grand Marnier(stir before measuring)

4 Tbs. Raspberry Peach Champagne Jam divided

8 (2 1/2 inch paper muffin cups

4 whole fresh strawberries halved

mint sprigs

Preparation:

Step 1. Remove crust from top of pound cake. Cut in half lengthwise.

Step 2. Spread bottom slice fudge sauce; top with second slice, and spread with 3 Tbs. jam.

Step 3. Refrigerate 1 hour. Before serving remove crust from sides and ends. Clean blade after each slice.

Step 4. Slice cake in half; Cut each half in half, and cut each half in half on the diagonal to yield 8 triangles.

Step 5. Rub strawberry jam over strawberry halves; top each sandwich with 1 glazed strawberry. Place each piece in muffin cup. Garnish with mint sprigs.

My Thoughts On Miss Dior Cherie

If I ever truthfully admitted exactly how much perfume that I own, I'm quite sure that somehow some way someone out there would have me committed. However, in my own defense I will just say that perfume is my way of having a "piece" of a designer that I adore, but minus the seriously high price tag that comes along with that! Which brings me to my latest acquisition Miss Dior Cherie.

I chose the Dior Miss Dior Cherie Eau de Toilette 1.7 oz Eau de Toilette Spray for my usual two reasons. Number 1, I tend to generally always purchase a smaller bottle when it comes to fragrance because then I pretty much know that it will be used up long before the scent starts to weaken. Number 2, because I also tend to purchase a toilette as opposed to a full strength perfume simply because I prefer my fragrances to "whisper" rather than "shout." I find the scent warm, soft, a touch musky, slightly fruity, though not overly sweet, feminine, light, and sophisticated in a young, classic, and fresh way. Perfume bottles are important to me in the respect that they must always be attractive. No worries here! As with all Dior bottles this one doesn't disappoint. The square-ish rectangle is topped with the elegant white label that presents the name in an elegant script, and finally is finished off with a silver metal ribbon.

This is a scent that will tend to linger, and because a very little goes a very long way, you will not be wondering how you could possibly used up the entire bottle in such a short span of time. I do tend to receive both compliments and brand inquiries whenever I'm wearing this very lovely scent, and as "Martha" would say," that is a very good thing!"

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

A fabulous and very healthy way to start out your day!

Ingredients for 1 hearty

or 2 petite servings:

2 tbs vegan margarine

1/2 cup steel cut oatmeal

1 1/2 cups hot water

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1 pinch of salt

1/2 cooking apple diced

1/4 cup soy, oat. or nut milk

1-2 tsp brown sugar

Pinch of nutmeg

Preparation:

Step 1. Heat margarine in a small pan with a tight lid. Add oats and toast them for 1-2 minutes. Add cinnamon and salt and stir well.

Step 2. Stir in hot water and bring to a brisk boil. Cover and turn down heat. After 15 minutes, add apple, milk, sugar, and stir. Cook for 5 minutes uncovered stirring occasionally.

Step 3. Scoop into a bowl, add a few orange slices, and sprinkle with brown sugar.

When it comes to fragrances, I prefer mine to be of the sensual/classic variety. I'm always on the lookout for something new and fabulous. In my opinion any fragrance that you wear should be an expression of who you are on a more personal level. I've picked out a few of my favorites to tell you a little bit about. Enjoy!

1. Lisa Hoffman Tuscan Fig is one of those scents that brings to mind an era that was filled with elegance and subtle luxury. I am a great fan of the Lisa Hoffman Madagascar Orchid fragrance, and I never thought that it would or could be topped. Well never say never! Tuscan Fig is ever so slightly sweet with notes of French jasmine, honeysuckle, vanilla bean, and gardenia. The warmth of amber, wood, and musks bring this incredible scent to an entirely new level. Truly a unique and extraordinary fragrance!

2. Giorgio Armani Prive Rose Alexandrie is a feminine delicate fragrance that any rose lover would be more than comfortable wearing. As anything with the iconic Armani label attached to it, this scent is classic elegance personified. Bergamot, tangerine, Italian neroli petals, and rose and yellow mimosa combine with a central note of romantic rose to present a scent that is simply sophisticated and lovely.

3. Herve Leger Femme by Max Azria is appropriately described a a "floral woody scent". It's infused with Chinese magnolia flower, Sicilian pink grapefruit, Moroccan orange flower with honeywood, cypress wood and finally vanilla. This lovely pale pink perfume is housed in a gorgeous bottle that is purposely reminiscent of the iconic "Bandeaux dress" of Herve Leger Fame.

4. Hermes Hermessence Iris Ukiyoe was created by Jean- Claude Ellena in 2010. The fragrance is centered on an Iris note, and the floral note is rose, orange blossom and mandarin. This scent joins the eight that have been created in this collection.

5. Lancome Tresor In Love features notes of bergamot, nectarine, pear, peach, rose, jasmine, violet, and woods and cedar. This is a younger and fresher version of its very successful big sister Tresor. Adorning the graceful bottle is a black satin rosette that beautifully conveys what the bottle is carrying.

Dilled Lobster Salad Sandwich

Ingredients for 8 sandwiches:
1 1/2 cups cooked and cubed lobster meat
3/4 cup blanched snow pea pods sliced in 3
1/2 cup peeled diced cucumbers
1/4 cup diced red bell pepper
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup mayonaise
3 tbs snipped fresh dill
1 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice
1/4 tsp kosher salt
2 drops tabasco
8 rolls
8 thin slices tomato
Bibb or red Boston lettuce leaves
Preparation:
Step 1. In a large bowl combine first 4 ingredients. n a small bowl combine sour cream, mayonnaise, lemon juice, dill, salt and Tabasco.
Step 2. Fold sour cream mixture into lobster mixture. Refrigerate covered for several hours.

Step 3. Serve with sliced rolls, topped with lettuce and tomato.

Fettuccine With Ham & Sugar Peas

A very simple, delicious, and elegant entree that can be put together very quickly!
Ingredients for four servings:

. 1 9 0unce pachage fresh fettuccine

. 2 tbs. butter

. 2 tsps minced garlic

. 1 8 ounce package sugar peas

. 1 1/2 cups diced cooked ham

. 1 (7oz container) creme fraiche

. 3 tbs milk

. 1/4 tsp freshly ground white pepper

. shredded parmesan cheese

Preparation:
Step 1. In a large skillet melt butter over medium heat. Cook garlic and peas for 5 minutes.
Step 2. Stir in ham, creme fraiche, milk and pepper. Heat through.
Step 3. Spoon over fettuccine; sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Serve.

Make Up Forever is part of my daily beauty routine. I use and love the foundation, the powder, and the concealer. I just happened to discover that they came out with these six color correcting shades as well as a transparent one.

I've spent some time vacationing in The West Indies, more specifically Barbados, even more specifically the glorious Sandy Lane. But, as they say "that was then and this is now". When it comes to soft pretzels, New Yorkers are quite used to the very best! So when native New Yorker Harris Golden and his lovely wife Sandy made to the choice to bring that New York flair to San Diego California, they knew a thing or two about what a quality soft pretzel was all about. Harris was by no means any stranger to the world of cuisine. At the age of 47 he was the Executive Chef at Elizabeth Arden's world renowned health resort, Maine Chance in Phoenix Arizona.

Awarded the "World's Best" honor by Lifestyles of The Rich and Famous, Harris then went on to write two best selling 5 star cookbooks ( Pleasures of the Palate and Golden Kitchen The Artistry of Cooking and Dining On The Light Side. He was featured in prestigious magazines such as Bon Appetit and Food Arts, and as a result of his success had the opportunity to dine in some of the finest restaurants in the world. Spring Cleaning Your Closet

I thought that it might be a good time to resurrect my Spring-Cleaning your closet list. Hopefully it will help inspire everyone to get that little task out of the way (like especially me!) :)

Spring Cleaning Your closet:

1) Be brave! Discard any clothing that no longer fits, is worn out, outdated, and or looks like its seen its better days.

2) Replace any wire hangers from the cleaners with wooden, plastic, and or satin padded ones.

3) Check for anything that needs to visit the dry cleaner (keep an eye out for any soiling) and prepare them for departure.

4) If you haven't worn it in 2 years and it is still in good shape, donate it!

5) Do not hang knits by their shoulders on hanger(they will stretch out ) Either fold them over on the hanger, or on a shelf or in a drawer.

6) Separate blouses, skirts, dresses, pants, etc, Then put all like colors together.

7) Keep a lint brush, small iron, and sewing kit nearby incase of a fashion emergency, and always remind yourself to protect your sweaters (as well as all winter fabrics/wool/cashmere/etc.) Purchase cedar chip, bars, etc, and keep in mind that dry cleaning will also protect your garments.

8) If at all possible add lighting.

9) Now that you can actually see what's in your closet, make a list of what you need.

10) Reward time- Go shopping!

Spaghetti Alla Carbonara

A classic dish of Rome
{ and very easy!}

Ingredients for 6-8 servings:

. 1 tablespoon olive oil

. 4 slices pancetta (diced) about 1/4 cup

. 5 eggs at room temperature

. 2 tablespoons whipping cream

. 3/4 cup grated Pecorino Romano cheese

. 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

. 1 pound spaghetti

. 1/8 tsp freshly ground pepper

. chopped flat leaf parsley

Preparation:

Step 1. In a skillet over medium-high heat, add pancetta. Cook, stirring occasionally until crisp; drain on paper towels.
Step 2. In medium bowl, whisk eggs, cream, 1/2 cup cheese, salt until blended.
Step 3. Cook spaghetti, drain but do not rinse.
Step 4. In a bowl toss spaghetti and egg mixture until eggs are cooked. Stir in black pepper, pancetta, parsley, and remaining cheese. Serve immediately.

When it comes to breakfast cereal that not only tastes great and is chock full of healthy ingredients, I've always felt that this was an area that was sorely lacking. So then along comes Me & Goji. I had the pleasure of being able to try it out, and try it I did! I had no idea what to expect, so I was ready for most anything. The first thing that I did was choose from a very long list all of the ingredients that I wanted my personal creation to contain.

I choose flaxed and flaked for the base of the cereal. Next cocoa almonds, raisins, almonds, cacao nibs. Step 2- Name your cereal Step 3. Last Step is that you can upload a photo to really personalize the cereal. I skipped that step, but I'm going to do it on my next order (So cute). The Alaska Glacial Mud Company

I recently had the opportunity to try out a few products from the Alaska Glacial Mud Company. I received the Glacial Mask, the application brush, and the Exfoliating Mineral Soap Bar. I decided (was forced) to allow one of my friends' to try out the soap, and I tried the Glacial mask. Okay the friend has skin that is a bit on the oily side, although she is always having the problem with products that dry up the oil but dry out the rest of her face at the same time.

Long story short, she was thrilled with the results of the soap and hasn't stopped using it since. She said that she actually can smell the mud and she is especially happy that the soap is really long lasting, and most importantly she plans on purchasing it when this one is about to be finished.

I on the other hand tried the Unscented Glacial Facial Purifying Mud Mask. It was easy to apply with the applicator, and the warming sensation felt great. I left it on 15 minutes per instruction. I rinsed it with a warm wet washcloth and patted my face dry. As soon as I touched my face it felt super soft and smooth. When I looked in the mirror there was no redness or any irritation. The next morning my skin looked really good, and my little oily t-zone stayed in check for about 3 days, at which time I did the mask again. Keep Things Flat & Fabulous With The Invisibelt

The Invisibelt is one invention that gets my vote for an easy 5 stars. Case in point: I wear Da Nang pants through the spring and summer. Because I always wear them with a fitted tea and wedges, I personally prefer to keep the pants on the slouchy side. Which naturally presents the problem of fitting in the butt and the legs but ending up with a very loose waist fit.

When designers Rebecca Matchett and Drew Paluba decided that there was a great need out there for a perfect button down collar shirt for a woman, they weren't kidding. I have been wearing their shirts for a few years now, and I can speak from experience when I say that they really hit the mark on this one. Realizing that a shirt that was cut according to one's bra size would be the answer to the prayers of women everywhere, they did exactly that. Say goodbye to that "gapping hole" problem.

Say "hello" to a shirt that screams "custom made". The sizes range from a 32A to a 38DD, and everything in between, and they didn't stop there. They also created two body shapes as well. "The Soft and Smooth" (my choice) is perfect for a woman with smaller shoulders, and a narrow midsection. No excess fabric or bulk. "The "strong and Confident" is geared more towards the woman that is broader in the shoulder area and straighter through the torso. While it does accommodate the curves, it still gives the appearance of a nipped in waist. Sweet Ancho Chile Barbecue Popcorn

A sweet & spicy mix makes this a truly addictive snack!

Ingredients for 9 cups :

.6 tbs butter

.2 tbs brown sugar

.1 1/2 teaspoons anco chile powder

.1/4 tsp liquid smoke

.9 cups popped popcorn

.1/4 tsp paprika

.1/3 tsp onion powder

.1/4 tsp kosher salt

Preparation:

Step 1. In a small saucepan melt butter, stir in brown sugar, ancho chile powder, and liquid smoke.

Step 2. Simmer on low for 2 minutes; remove from heat.

Step 3. In a large bowl combine popcorn, melted butter mixture, paprika, onion powder, and kosher salt. Toss to coat. Serve.
